New Horizon Academy Collects 7,711 Books in Honor of “I Love to Read Month”

PLYMOUTH, Minn. – In honor of “I Love to Read” month, New Horizon Academy conducted a book drive to collect new or gently used children’s books to benefit the programs of Reach Out and Read.

Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Reach Out and Read serves more than 4 million children and their families annually.

During the month of February, New Horizon Academy families were invited to bring new or gently used books to any of our New Horizon Academy locations. The support of families donating books helps ensure school readiness and positive outcomes for children. With the cooperation of our families, we are able to spread the joy of reading, and nurture a nation of readers.

“Developing early literacy skills is essential for a child to succeed in elementary school,” said Desiree Culhane, Director of New Horizon Academy, Apple Valley.  “We are delighted to help support the important mission of Reach Out and Read.”

All 7,711 books that were donated will be delivered to the Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota.
