Children at New Horizon Academy Support Teachers, Families, and Essential Workers by Sewing Face masks

Apple Valley, Minn. (May 14, 2020) – Children at New Horizon Academy show love and support for their teachers, their families, and essential workers. As part of the Caring Beyond the Classroom program, children at New Horizon Academy sewed 150 face masks for their families, a local hospital, and lab workers at Children’s Hospital engaged in the coronavirus fight.
Robin Hills, Director at New Horizon Academy, decided to sew masks for the teachers at her school and for essential workers at a local hospital. The children were intrigued and wanted to make masks, too. So as part of the Caring Beyond the Classroom Program at New Horizon Academy, Robin and the children made masks for families at their school, the children in their class, and essential workers at a local hospital. “The children enjoyed making the masks,” said Robin Hills, Director at New Horizon Academy, “and they were excited to help others. It was a powerful lesson in the importance of helping others.”
“In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, there are wonderful opportunities for children to learn and to support those in need, “ said Cara Johnson-Bader, Vice President of Marketing and Parent Experiences, “Using lessons from our Caring Beyond the Classroom curriculum, children learn valuable lessons of caring for others and practicing kindness during this challenging time. These acts of kindness help children navigate their way through fear and confusion and start children on a path of giving to others.”
The children were proud to share masks with family members and teachers, and to donate to their local hospital.
