Caring Beyond the Classroom Event at New Horizon Academy Teaches Kids to Be Kind

Plymouth, Minn. (November 10, 2020) – New Horizon Academy children and their teachers participated in a company-wide Caring Beyond the Classroom event on November 10th that helped children spread kindness and learn about the positive impact they may have in their local community.
Together, children and their teachers helped to create 3,050 placemats for Meals on Wheels, 3,464 coloring sheets for Color A Smile, and 2,350 thank you notes for essential workers. The goal of the event was to help children develop important social-emotional skills while giving back to the local community.
Caring and compassion are two of the most important values parents hope to instill in their children, and there is no better way to do that than to provide children and families with tools they need to make a difference. Families received Caring Beyond the Classroom kits, so that they could implement kindness and caring activities together as a family.
“Caring Beyond the Classroom helps children develop important empathy, compassion, and kindness skills. Children develop compassion through acts of caring and kindness towards others, and as they grow, it can guide their actions and behaviors in positive ways,” said Cara Johnson-Bader, Vice President of Marketing and Parent Experiences. “Our teachers and children enjoyed working on the service learning projects together, giving back to the community, and engaging in meaningful conversations about how their actions and projects will impact the lives of others.”
The Caring Beyond the Classroom program is incorporated into our schools year-round, and through these service projects, children learn empathy, kindness, compassion, and citizenship.
